Boeing Whistleblower Found Dead
Another whistleblower's death
Dean raised concerns about manufacturing
Police in Charleston, SC are investigating the death of John Barnett, a former Boeing quality control manager. The Charleston County coroner confirmed his death to the BBC on Monday. It said the 62-year-old had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Deans death comes weeks after another Boeing whistleblower, John Barnett, a former quality manager for the company's South Carolina plant, died. John Barnett died on Saturday from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to officials in Charleston County, SC.
CNN reported that Dean, a former longtime Boeing employee, had raised serious concerns about the company's manufacturing practices. He had reportedly filed a complaint with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 2019, alleging that Boeing was pressuring employees to meet production targets at the expense of safety.
Boeing has not yet commented on Dean's death.
The deaths of Dean and Barnett have raised questions about the safety culture at Boeing. Some critics have accused the company of putting profits ahead of safety, and of retaliating against employees who raise concerns.
In a statement to CNN, Boeing said it was "deeply saddened" by Dean's death. The company said it was "committed to the safety of our employees and our products."
